Camo Cake {how to}

Camo Cake anyone?!?

Fun right?

And it was super easy.

I used two White Cake boxed mixes per layer...four cake boxes total.
I made them exactly as directed and then split the batter into three somewhat equal portions...

{this is just two boxes...one layer}

I used the following dyes to turn the batter the desired camo colors:

Wilton Juniper Green and Wilton Ivory

and AmeriColor Chocolate Brown

Now...before I proceed...let me say that I have always been a fan of Wilton.
But the other day when I went to Hobby Lobby, I noticed that their gel dyes were being clearanced out and right next to the Wilton dye was a rack of this AmeriColor gel dye.
Out of curiosity, I bought a bottle...and let me tell you...
SO MUCH TRUER TO COLOR with very little used.  I will now be buying the AmeriColor gel dyes!

AMAZING!

See how chocolatey brown it is?  That's with just three small drops of the AmeriColor dye!

Each layer was baked in my Wilton 10x3" baking pan...see my review/instructions for the pans HERE!

I simply poured the batter into my greased pan, alternating between colors...
I'm a messy baker!

Until my batter looked like this...

At which point my DIVA came into the kitchen and asked why I was playing with PlayDoh without her!

Following my baking instructions for the pan I was using, I baked the cake for 65 minutes...
checking on it about 25 minutes into the baking...

and voila...65 minutes later...

Since I was doing a layered cake, I sliced the top off so I'd have a flat surface...and this is what I saw!

Turned out just how I wanted it too...looks great from the side too!

Note ~ the frosting is my homemade Chocolate Buttercream Frosting!
